Calgarians love pie!! Just two years after opening its first location in the city’s southwest, the Pie Junkie has opened a second location in Kensington.
She is really sweet and told me how this is her second career. She left the advertising industry a few years back and decided it was time to pursue her own business. Pie making has been in her family for years; she even told me the original name for the store was Pie Hole because her mother told her she talked too much and she would always say,” Nancy, shut your pie hole!”
Nancy is already preparing for a very busy holiday season. She’ll be taking summer favorites (like Key Lime pie) off the menu and adding some traditional favorites such as mincemeat and tourtiere. The bakery also offers a great selection of brownies, homestyle cookies and shortbread for the holidays.
If you haven’t been to Pie Junkie yet, you must try this place. All of her pies are made with an all-butter pastry crust baked in its own custom-made wooden rings. They freeze well and you can reheat them in your own oven using the “low and slow” method for best results.
The day I went to the store I bought a key lime pie and brought it home to the family. I was going to save it and take pictures of it for this post, but guess what? It didn’t last long enough!
For the holidays, Pie Junkie is selling gift boxes of two small pies and a bottle of Prosecco or one large pie and a bottle of Prosecco. The gift boxes are between $65-80 and would be a great present for the foodie in your life. Actually, they’d make a great gift for anybody…who doesn’t love pie??
Here’s a brief look at the menu, but as I mentioned earlier, some flavors change with the seasons.
- Blueberry Nectarine
- Apple with Carmel Sauce
- Sour Cherry
- Salted Honey
- Lemon Meringue

If savory pies are more your thing, you’ll enjoy:
