When it comes to gift giving for teens and tweens, I tend to lean towards practical gifts, like a gift card to a store that you know they love. In recent years, we’ve also enjoyed giving experiences to special friends – like tickets to a concert or taking a friend to an attraction or theme park.

But we were a little stumped on what to give my daughter’s dance friends as a thank you for being such great dance partners this year. We wanted it to be something extra special and meaningful, since we are moving and this was the last year these girls would dance together.

When I came across Lori Burt’s Instagram page featuring her adorable custom-made artwork, I knew it would be the perfect gift! Lori has her own Etsy shop called ProjectPrint where you can order fashion prints of your favorite peeps…or even yourself! Custom illustrations begin at $40, and yes she even ships to Canada!!

I sent Lori two of my favorite photos of my daughter and her friends in their dance costumes. She loved their outfits and thought they would translate well into a custom illustration – one a 5×7 and the other an 8×10 (based on the number of people in the photo). Here are the photos:

This was a musical theatre number Wallflower.

This was a contemporary duet called Refuge.

Within days, Lori had emailed me a rough sketch of both illustrations. We went back and forth on a few points, mainly the wording and captions. A few days later, the original was in my mailbox. Here’s how they turned out!

Aren’t they so cute? I just love them!! Lori is so talented – I love how she was able to capture not only their outfits, but their personality based on the photos I sent.  She was such a pleasure and so professional to work with. If you are a newbie to Etsy (like me!), you need not worry; the process was very easy and efficient.

Here is the link to Lori’s Etsy shop. She is offering my readers a coupon for 15% off a custom order which will last for one week. Just use the coupon code FunFriday at checkout.

Saying goodbye to good friends is extremely hard; I’ve shed a few tears of my own just watching my girls and their friends make the most of these last few weeks together. I’m so glad we were able to honor these special friendships with a keepsake that they can put on their wall and treasure for many years to come. Thank you Lori!
