I was so thrilled to have my college roommate come to Texas for a visit recently. We decided it would be fun to take a road trip to Waco, about 2.5 hours from Houston. Our mission: to visit the Magnolia Market regularly featured on the popular HGTV show Fixer Upper.
The store is owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines, the hosts of Fixer Upper. Last fall, they opened a new and larger
retail store in Waco featuring many of the items Joanna uses to decorate the homes on the show. She is the sole buyer for the store, so all of the products in the store definitely have her signature style.
Saturday is THE busiest day of the week to visit Magnolia Market so, if at all possible, you should pick another day to visit. There was a long line-up around the corner and down the side street. However, I will say the line moved pretty quickly.
Upon entering the store, you are greeted by a fresh spring display of (faux) flowers – but they look so real.
The items in the store have a bit of a Pottery Barn feel to me, but maybe a little more antique-like. I did splurge and buy this beautiful Magnolia wreath (one of Joanna’s favorite picks!) for my front door. It will always be a great reminder of our time living in Texas.
Some items were actually on sale – so that was a bonus!
After browsing the store, we wandered out back to grab lunch at the food truck park. I decided on a gourmet grilled cheese, but there’s also pizza, coffee, rice bowls and freshly made crepes. Some people brought their dogs and children played outdoors on the lawn.
It was really neat to see Chip and Joanna’s original store nearby known as the Little Shop on Bosque. It had just over 500 square feet of retail space, while the new store has about 4,000 square feet.
See what I mean about busy??
On Saturday, there were two baby goats on hand for viewing and a few cuddles. I’m assuming they must be from the Gaines’ farm – they have over 100 animals on the farm. And if you are a fan of the show, you probably already know they don’t even have a TV at their farmhouse. Apparently, they love watching episodes of Fixer Upper at their friends’ house!
I would highly recommend a trip to Magnolia Market at the Silos. We really enjoyed our visit there, we made a day of it and even took a short tour of nearby Baylor University. It was awesome. Sic ’em Bears!
