I don’t need to tell you the stats. You already know how addicted many of us are to our phones, tablets and laptops. And, these devices can distract us from the most important people in our lives – our family.

How many times have you said one of the following phrases to your kids or husband:

  • “I need to check my email…”
  •  “I have to reply to this text…”
  • “Let me update my Facebook…”

Put the phone away and spend a fun-filled day at Calgary’s Acura Tube Park

I think we can all nod in agreement. Yes, technology can be a wonderful thing that makes our lives easier and better. Perhaps you work at a job that requires you to be on call and available 24/7? Most of us use social media in some way for our jobs. Or, maybe you use it as a way to relax…surfing Facebook or Netflix for entertainment. But, if you let it, it can pull us away from those we love the most…chewing up valuable time that we would have spent chatting, catching up on the day, connecting. Do you want to show your kids that they come first?Let’s start with baby steps. For just one day, our friends at Parenting Power and YMCA Calgary are asking you to disconnect from technology…and connect more with your family.

Join the #NoPhoneFamilyDay movement and let your friends know too

The #NoPhoneFamilyDay challenge is Monday, February 20th, which is Family Day here in Alberta and a statutory holiday with a different name in other provinces. Are you up for the challenge?

What a perfect opportunity to just tune out digital distraction for a day and engage more with your family – get outside, be active, play a game, eat a meal together…maybe cook a meal together.

I am giving away a Family Pass for 5 to Calgary’s new Acura Tube Park at Canada Olympic Park in honor of the #NoPhoneFamilyDay campaign. A huge thank you to Winsport for donating the pass, which is good for four hours of non-stop riding on any day you choose. After all, it’s pretty hard to be on your phone when you are whizzing down the tube track at top speed! We’d love if you could share this movement with your friends, using the hashtag #NoPhoneFamilyDay.

Over the Christmas break, we tried out the Tube Park and had a blast…check out my video here!

There are two steps to enter:

  • enter via Rafflecopter below, leaving your email address so I can reach you
  • leave a comment on this blog post telling me how you and your family like to spend quality digital-free time together.

Thanks for entering and the winner will be announced February 1st. Have an awesome Family Day everybody!

We love family game night and all the giggles, music and snacks that go with it! We have berry waffles & listen to music every Sunday morning (since our wedding). We do raclette dinners that slow the evening down for great conversation. We ski, we bake, we volunteer, we drive to the mountains, we cheer at soccer games, we go to farmers markets & art festivals, we play with our bunny, go to concerts, go biking, get ice cream & walk along the riverbank.

We love getting back to nature by going camping in all seasons! While there we go on hikes, play games, ice skate in winter, go boating in summer.. bbq our dinner, & end the evening with a warm, cozy campfire. It’s togetherness completely un-plugged & it creates the best memories!
